More often than not, people try to wave off this feeling by believing that these movies with real sex scenes are actually unreal and actors are just doing their jobs, which is, acting.

8 Movies With Real Sex Scenes

Here is the list of movies that portrayed real sex on-screen and baffled the audience.

1. Chloe Sevigny and Vincent Gallo in ‘Brown Bunny’

‘Brown Bunny’ was released in 2008 which revolved around the lives of Gallo who was a motorcycle racer and his former girlfriend, Chloe Sevigny. It was rumored that Gallo was in a relationship with Chloe way back when the film began its shooting.

Gallo had pitched this risky idea to Chloe by saying, ‘Remember that night in Paris when I did that thing to you but you didn’t do it to me because you weren’t so into it? Well, you might have to do that. On film.’ His idea behind doing such a scene in the climax of the movie was implying the concept of male sexuality and self-loathing.

Chloe Sevigny’s agreement to do the scene was a bit of a shocker for the world, however, she is adamant about her actions as she says, ‘I’d probably still do it today. I believe in Vincent as an artist and I stand by the film. It was a subversive act. It was a risk.’

2. Robert Pattinson in ‘Little Ashes’

Released in 2008, Robert Pattinson’s masturbating scene in ‘Little Ashes’ had opened new gateways in his acting career that he couldn’t have imagined. Playing the role of the surrealist painter Salvador Dali, he had to act as if he was masturbating in a scene. However, he was not able to act after a plethora of attempts. Therefore, in the end, he took the risk and did it on screen.

During that time, he wondered whether this scene would close avenues to his acting career, but to his surprise, something very opposite happened to him. After his shooting got over, he got the call for a movie, which made him the highly stanned character, Edward Cullen for the ‘Twilight’ series.

Apart from this movie, he has also simulated in four other movies, namely, High Life Damsel, The Devil All The Time, and The Lighthouse.

3. Karl Glusman, Aomi Muyock and Klara Kristin in ‘Love’

Released in 2015, Gaspar Noe’s, ‘Love’ revolves around the lives of a couple who welcomes a third person in their bed for pleasure. When this third person arrives, their entire lives go topsy-turvy.

The beginning of the film starts with the couple naked in bed and pleasuring each other to reach the climax. The most interesting thing about this movie is that the actors did not have any kind of practice sessions involving unsimulated sex. The actors had just kissed for the first time on the movie sets.  

4. Shia LaBeouf, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard and Uma Thurman in ‘Nymphomaniac’

Although this movie does contain some sex scenes they are not unsimulated exactly. Louise Vesth, the director of the movie, mentioned to a reporter that the actors had simulated sex scenes in the movie. 

However, they had brought doubles in the set to shoot the unsimulated ones. During the post-production of the movie, both of these scenes were combined, where the upper part of the actors and the lower part of the doubles were used for the scenes.  

5. Helen Mirren, Peter O’Toole, and others in ‘Caligula’

Directed and produced by Bob Guccione, this erotic historical drama revolves around the life of the Roman Emperor Caligula. Like the other movies, Caligula did not include the mainstream actors but some of the crew members of Penthouse.

Once when the production of the movie was finished and actors had gone home, Guccione had asked the selected crew members to perform certain orgiastic scenes which depicted real, unsimulated sex scenes. However, this movie did receive some negative criticism implying its obscenity and vulgarity.

6. John Cameron Mitchell’s ‘Shortbus’

The plotline of ‘Shortbus’ revolves around a couples therapist who is not able to reach the climax even though she has a loving husband. According to John Cameron Mitchell, the director of the film, couples in real life do not cut away the first time they have sex with someone and especially the ones they are in love with.

For this reason, he had gathered a special team of actors who were trustworthy and had spent two years along with each other before they started filming the movie.

7. Michael Winterbottom’s ‘9 Songs’

From foot job, masturbation, fellatio to even ejaculation on-screen, Michael Winterbottom’s 2004 film, ‘9 Songs’, includes everything that one could imagine doing in bed with or without their partners, not to mention a foot job.

Be that as it may, the hard work of Margo Stilley and Kieran O’Brien did not seem to pay off as per the review of Rotten Tomatoes who said that these scenes had become tedious to watch and the characters did not have a strong personality that could make the audience care for them.  

8. Andy Warhol’s ‘Blue Movie’

Andy Warhol’s 1969 film, ‘Blue Movie’ revolves around the couple, played by Viva and Louis Walden living in an apartment together, who communicate about various things such as Vietnam War, cook, shower and one thing leads to another and they have unsimulated sex.

This movie, unlike some movies with real sex scenes, was extremely successful in New York as it was the first movie to feature real sex. Not only in New York, but this movie gained widespread popularity in Berkeley, California.
