A unique show like shark tank which has been continuing for over a decade has turned the business reality into something that is extremely interesting, thrilling, drama, inspiration and creativity. The show has not only helped in engaging people’s attention but also has inspired a plethora of individuals to start their own companies. Premiered on March 22 on CNBC, Billion Dollar Buyer is one the reality shows that ran quite similar to the tv show like Shark Tank. It is an American TV reality show, featuring the business owner, Tilman Fertitta, who is CEO and owner of Landry’s Inc.

Spanning across six episodes, the series covers the United States where Tilman will explore potential hospitality products for his restaurants and casinos. In each episode, he will meet with two small businessmen to analyse their potential and compatibility to work with Landry’s Inc.

After assessing the products, Fertitta will suggest some amendments to be made in the product, which will be reviewed again at the end of the episode. Moreover, Fertitta overviews approximately 500 properties which represent 2 billion dollars.   

Tilman Fertitta’s, Landry’s Inc. is considered to be the second-largest private employer in Houston, running on 10,750 local employees. The CEO has overviewed more than 50 different brands ranging from Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Morton’s The Steakhouse, McCormick and Schmick’s , Rainforest Cafe, as well as five Golden Nugget Hotel and several other hotel properties.

Being consecutively nominated five times for Primetime Award nominations and Outstanding Award series, Silicon Valley is an American comedy television series, which premiered on HBO on April 6, 2014.

The series sardonically mocks the culture of Silicon Valley and focuses on the protagonist Richard Hendricks who, along with his four friends founded the start-up company called Pied Piper. The entire series, spanning over 3 seasons, revolves around the protagonist maintaining his company in face of his enemies.  If you want to find some witty humour, this might be the one for you.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Silicon Valley is a hilarious take on modern era technology developed by the geeks, who hope their ideas are The Next Big Thing. According to some viewers, it is one of the best comedy series ever written.

The series is an amalgamation of the business entrepreneurship reality and the sardonic humour. The show has been greatly appreciated for its witty and authentic humour.   

 3.       Billions:

This is considered to be one of the real-life investigation series which was undertaken by Preet Bharara, a US Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 2009 to 2017, ‘Billions’ will really take your breath away.

The show premiered on Showtime on January 17, 2016, and spans across five complete seasons which is still continued to till date. The show expounds the tough financial world where Damian Lewis, playing the role of a 9/11 survivor Bobby Axe Axelrod, rises up to be the finance hotshot, as a hedge fund manager.

Lewis’ ultimate nemesis in the show, Paul Giamatti, is the US Attorney Chuck Rhodes, who is hell-bent on unravelling the crimes of Damian Lewis and is attempting to prosecute him, which are hidden under his generous acts. The sixth season was not able to get released due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Billions are also considered to be one of the ‘guilty pleasures’, where you just fall in love with Axe. The protagonist’s intelligence and conscience which makes you stick to the web-series till the end. He is the reflection of an ultimate bad boy, who is not hated by anyone.

 4.       StartUp:

A startUp is an American web television series which premiered on September 6, 2016, on Crackle. This drama is heaven for all the tech enthusiasts, who may not even regret all the binge-watching blues.

It deals with the inception of a novel yet controversial tech idea of digital currency, known as GenCoin. This digital currency was the idea of a group of collaborators in Miami, which is also mixed with crime and thrill, including a crooked FBI agent chasing the ones who stole his money.

Apart from that, the series is a bit inclined to the pornographic imagery, including some male-gazing sex scenes. Due to these digressions, it feels that the show is sort of running astray from its original hacking thriller.   

5.       Bad Boy Billionaires: India

A 2020 Indian Netflix original documentary, Bad Boy Billionaires revolves around the lives of four major financial moguls of India, namely, Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, Subrata Roy and Ramalinga Raju.

Although it might not seem parallel to a tv show like shark tank, it involves the early lives of these powerful and successful people who have taken great financial risks before being charged with corruption.

The documentary expounds the causes and the consequences of the financial scams that were initiated by all these people. The documentary is able to release only three episodes featuring the lives of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Subrata Roy. However, the fourth episode featuring the lives of Ramalinga Raju is unavailable on the OTT platform.
